Sagrada Família, Barcelona

Dec 17, 2019

For my unconditional love for view from top (though I am uncomfortable from height most of the time), I wanted to visit the top as many places I could go to. So, getting on top of the towers at Sagrada Familia was a must for me.

In case you do not know then here are some details about it, here are some details - The Basilica de la Sagrada Família whose one of the architect is none other than Antoni Gaudí. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where modernist design mixed up with contemporary styles But the most fascinating fact is the construction started in 1882 and it is still not finished! It was opened for public visits only since 2010. They aim to finish it by 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death. So, every time you go, you might find it different from your last visit.

Unlike most basilica, the statues are on the outside displaying life events of Jesus. From the inside, there are large glass window to allow the basilica  to be filled with light. Visit them when the sun rises or when the sun is about to set so that the glass windows look even better.

I went with of my colleague and booked it for Sunday mid-morning. I could even see the mass going on and the stained glass windows looked majestic.

Now about the towers: there are two sides that are complete – Nativity Façade towers and Passion Façade towers. You can only visit any of them when you book your tickets to reach the top of of tower. Nativity façade, dedicated to be birth of Jesus, looks toward the city (but you can also see little bit of sea) on the east and Passion Façade, dedicated to the suffering of Jesus during his crucifixion, facing the sea on the west side.

I choose Nativity Façade tower because I got to know there from where I could see the Barcelona.

But, the cherry on top was the getting down the famous spiral steps of Sagrada Familia.
