OOTD - Gold Studded Jacket with Forbidden Warren Hastings

Jan 30, 2014

Thanks to Swarnali, I was able to be at the inauguration of the Kolkata Lit Meet '14 at Victoria. The inauguration and some great events after that all happened at the West Quadrangle of the Victoria Memorial.

I got to know from Swarnali that this area is NOT for allowed for the general viewing of public.
I was charmed by the beauty of the place so, requested her and her friend to take some clicks.

About the satues in the back - Warren Hastings (1732-1818) by Richard Westmacott. Marble. The two figures on either side of Hastings are part of the piece. They represent, on the left, a Muslim reading a book, and on the right, a Brahman holding a palm manuscript. The group was originally located in the south portico of the Town Hall, Calcutta. Today it is located in the West Quadrangle of the Victoria Memorial. The statue of Hastings was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1828, while the other figures were exhibited in 1829.
