Everyday Brown / Copper Eyeshadow Palette - The Body Shop Winter Trend Smoky Eye Palette Smoky Copper - Review and Swatch

Feb 20, 2013

I am not the kind of person who is always dressed up and have makeup on all the time. When I leave from home at morning, I do not even a stroke of eye liner or lip balm on. I carry things that can be used to revamp your look.

Palettes always come in handy that way. My first palette was Maybelline Chai Latte and it made me realize and you must have a brown n*de palette with shimmery shades which can be used for subtle day look and later used to create a dynamic look in case you are going out for dinner or party.

I got Sleek Oh So Special but I needed something smaller. I also had Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip N*de but that's way too cute to be shoved inside my makeup bag. So, from the day I first got to know about this TBS palette, I had to have it. Partly because my Maybelline Chai Latte is about to expire and part because I could not find any other shimmery palette that looked cute yet sturdy and also part because its Limited Edition. I get a mini panic attack when I hear 'limited edition'. So, I knew I have to have it.

The Body Shop Winter Trend  Smoky Eye Palette Smoky Copper - This eyeshadow palette was the part of the limited edition winter trend makeup by The Body Shop. It has four shimmery coppers/brown/coffee with two mini brushes.

Applicators / Brush - The mini brushes look like someone just used the machine from 'Honey, I Shrunk The Kids' on Body Shop's full size brushes. So, yes, no boring sponge tip applicator with this but good eyeshadow brushes. Working with them was not as easy as the large ones but this can be used for touch up, etc.

PackagingFor people who are not much aware of how to do a smoky look  have it all written on the back of the outer package as well as the palette itself has the step by step instructions.

It has mirror inside which make it more logical to be used while travelling. The palette is small enough to fit in your hand but thicker than Sleek Palettes.

Instructions - How to do copper/brown smoky eyes

Mirror inside for the touch-ups etc

Small Enough, eh?
Mica (Opacifier), Synthetic Fluorphlogopite (Viscosity Increasing Agent), Lanolin Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Isostearyl Neopentanoate (Emollient), Dimethicone (Skin Conditioning Agent), Magnesium Stearate (Anticaking Agent), Synthetic Wax (Binder/Emollient), Talc (Absorbent/Bulking Agent), Copernicia Cerifera Cera (Stabiliser/Viscosity Modifier), Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Silica (Absorbent), Methylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative). [+/- CI 77499 (Colour), CI 77891 (Colorant), CI 77491 (Colour), CI 77492 (Colour)].

Swatches - The colors don't have any name. Just regarded as 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the back. So, swatching them in the same order. Pictures taken is different lighting.

Texture - All the colors are smooth and buttery in the pan. It's tough to get the full intensity with the brushes provided. Even with proper eyeshadow brushes, without a primer or cream base, getting full intensity is tough. This is may be because though it feels smooth in the pan, its actually powdery.

The colors are a bit tough to blend together. If you wish a achieve a full on intense smoky look, you will have to use a dark cream eyeshadow or a good dark eyeliner as base. Plus, a darker color or liner for more defined outer V. For some Indian skin tone the light highlighting color might be paler.

The lightest color is pale beige with fine shimmer. This tend to get frosty if used more. The second color has very fine warm tone gold shimmer. The darkest brown is the smoothest of all. Its multi-dimensional and can be easily used alone as well. The darkest brown will surely be the first to hit pan. But, I was not much satisfied with the intensity to be used to define the outer V while creating the smoky look.

All the colors have fine shimmer and don't have glitter.

I noticed good amount of fall outs when used alone with no base etc. The fall out were there even during application.

Price - Full price is 1,995 INR way too much for this. Luckily, I got them at a 50% discount. And at times I think even at 50% off, it was much for this palette. There are two stores in my city and I found that one was having 50% off and other was having 10% off so, please check before you buy. You can read about it here - Free TBS Membership and Mini Haul from TBS

Overall - This is a easy to work with palette for warm tone. Its better to look at it as a collection of 4 eyeshadows than something that is to be used for one look.

Get this if you

1. Getting it in offer as the full price is much beyond its real worth.
2. Lean toward natural shimmery shades.
3. Love collecting palettes.

Not, if you

1. Have access to other palettes which can do similar job
2. Not convinced with the price.
