Origins is a reputed brand in skincare which is highly praised for its face masks. I never had access to them in India so, when I spot them at the Kuala Lumpur Airport, I had to pick them up. I tried them on my face there, and it felt good. I wanted to buy all of them. But, because of the price, I had to step back. I even called my friend, Rini, (who have used Origins masks) to know if they were worth it.

Her answer: “No.”

But, being a skincare addict I could not say no. After a lot of considerations and thoughts (I spend most of my time at the airport there. Shopped the rest in a matter of minutes), I picked this trio pack.

Price: About Rs 950 for each 50gm tube.

Activated charcoal is one my favorite ingredients in skincare. It pulls out dirt, detoxifies, and impart radiance that no one can deny. Plus, it is suitable for all skin types. I had the same expectation from the face mask, and it delivered. The mask is a smooth waxy paste and takes times to dry hence, works for long to purify skin.
  • Dupe: A budget (and more efficient) version is easily available in India. If you know me when then you might have guessed it as well – FabIndia Charcoal Face Pack (Rs 350 for 100ml). Even better, pick the FabIndia Charcoal Face Scrub which doubles as a scrub and face mask.
  • Ingredients: Water, Melilotus Officinalis (Melilot) Extract, Equisetum Arvense Leaf Extract, Kaolin, Bentonite, Butylene Glycol, Montmorillonite, Polysorbate 20, PEG-100 Stearate, Activated Charcoal, Xanthan Gum, Lecithin, PEG-150 Distearate, Propylene Glycol Stearate, Sorbitan Laurate, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Simethicone, Trisodium EDTA, Dehydroacetic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Iron Oxides

The one thing that you instantly notice when you apply the mask is the cooling effect (which can be felt for some time even after washing it off). The ingredient responsible here is Camphor. Camphor is FDA approved for the cure of skin irritations. Also, it contains one of my skin care favorite for irritated skin – Zinc Oxide. Out of Trouble is a soothing mask and a boon for oily, acne prone and irritated skin. I love to use it after the sun. It is a like a stronger version of Simple Kind To Skin Mask. While the face mask soothes skin, I still recommend doing a patch test if you have very sensitive skin (because of camphor). In that case, go for Simple Deep Cleansing Mask.
  • Dupe: Any diaper rash cream high on zinc oxide like Sudocream. As diaper rash creams are for babies and will be without camphor, it will do great for sensitive skin. In fact, I recommend that you always have Sudocrem with you – it works on rashes, relieves from insect bites, soothes sunburns, acts as a sunscreen, dries out acne, can be used as a mask, spot treatment, and as all over cream.
  • Ingredients: Water, Cetyl Esters, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Peg-100 Stearate, Camphor, Ceteareth-20, Salicylic Acid, Colloidal Sulfur, Butylene Glycol, Bentonite, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol.

I am on the fence about this. Though it is an overnight mask, it feels more like a lotion. It is a good moisturizing night cream. Moreover, it is good for dry patches that I got after acnes dries up. It is meant for dry skin so, when used more, it feels greasy. I use it more as a spot treatment than all-over-mask.
  • Ingredients: Water, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Stearic Acid, Polybutene, Glyceryl Stearate, Oleic Acid, Aminomethyl Propanediol, Acrylates Copolymer, Panthenol, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid.

Overall: I do not have any complaints from the three masks. There was nothing that they claimed and didn’t do nor did they cause me any trouble. Availability in India and the price are a major issue with Origins skincare. In fact, it is the same reasons why I won't suggest these face masks from Origins. I do not find them worth of trouble of going the large distance of finding them and then paying the huge amount for them. I completely agree with my friend. I do not regret buying them as I always wanted to try them and if I had not purchased than they would have haunted me :P

Hence, I have mentioned the dupes here just for you. :D
