While we were planning our Bali trip, the second thing that was to be booked (after air tickets) was a place to stay. As we were reaching after 10 in the night and also during the holiday season, we had to book it in advance. While there were numerous hotels, I was not quite confident with the choices that were provided. One day, I tried AirBnB, and I was in awe.
- The selections were great
- The prices were good (far lower than hotels with lot more privacy and facilities)
- Numerous filters to help your select the best like location and amenities (always check on Superhost)
- Reviews by the guests to understand how they are doing and where they fall short
I wanted a place with a pool that is near Seminyak. I wanted to avoid Kuta. So, we booked our stay at Villa Cosmopolitan. Why book a hotel room in Bali when you can live in a Villa?
Villa Cosmopolitan is run by a cute couple - Thomas from Germany and Winnie from China. The place is utterly beautiful and before I say anything, here is a short video to give you the feel of the place.
Yes, the shower is in the open where you can see the clouds (and stars and even the moon when you shower at night). I was tired after almost 24 hours of travel (it was our mistake that we booked tickets with 12 hours layover) but when I saw that shower, I spring back to life. It was the day after full moon, and the moon was shining right above the shower head. The bathroom also has a humongous bathtub which can fit a family. Outside is the pool which you can use anytime of the day.

We went in August which is considered to be the best time to visit Bali. The weather was sunny, but it was breezy. The room is well made with big windows which allow fresh air in the room. But, you can always turn on the AC when needed. Some places in Bali do not offer AC to give travelers a more 'natural' feel. So, check on that if you need AC.
They also have a kitchen you can use. We purchased local food, fruits, and drinks that we wanted to try and used the fridge to keep them. The Villa is cleaned everyday

But, good people makes everything even better. Our hosts were great. Winnie is sweet, and Thomas loves to help. They always ensured that we were comfortable and enjoyed our time there. Thomas has an extra scooter, and he took us along to see all the must-see, must-do, and must-eat around the villa. The scooter was well maintained so; we rented the scooter from him. That was a good thing to do instead of going to a rented shop because I have heard stories about how rent shops can dupe you (there are hundreds of people sharing their experience). As the scooter was serviced, we never had to worry while venturing far and wide in Bali. They also offer pickup and drop service to Airport.
Villa Cosmopolitan is close to the Seminyak beach, and the best restaurants are close-by. There is also a K-Mart just a few meters from the Villa. K-Mart offers food, coffee, and other everyday essentials. They also provide good exchange rate compared to the ones we get outside Denpasar Airport and other places. Thought the K-Mart is open 24 hours, currency exchange stops at 10 PM.
Have you ever tried booking by AirBnB?
I am highly impressed by them. Our experience at the Villa was great and it was not heavy on our pocket. Money saved is money that can be spent on shopping :D
