Day Out in Daman

Sunday Morning. Deep in my sweet slumber. Shaking off all my tiredness from back to back travels and office work. Call comes from the reception desk that someone is to meet me, and I replied, "Please send him. He is my husband!!"

Lovely surprise but with him around I was not ready to spend the day in my hotel room. So, we decided to visit Daman which is just a few kilometers from here.

A colleague of mine recommended 'Veera Da Dhaba' and we took our hungry bellies there. Instant love. Veera Da Dhaba is cool with super spicy Punjabi food. There are beds (khatiya) as seats. So, if you wish to take a pause while eating then you can doze off a little. Well, I did. The crowd is majorly college students and also people from Mumbai and nearby cities looking for a break from everyday life. One can go alone but because of the nice setup, I will recommend going with a group to enjoy it the most.

We stepped out to and I wanted to go to a church. I have read history. I know Daman has a lot of church. Name of the church? Well, I was not an A student in history. I hailed for an auto and asked him to take me to Church. No names. I said just church and it was all on him where he wanted me to land.

Bless the good driver who took me to Basilica Of Bom Jesus Church. It is inside the fort area and I was in love with the whole places. There are scenic government building inside, school, houses and even in court, all painted in the darndest of the colors. We went on Sunday during afternoon time so, it was deserted. Everything looked as it came out of a book. Next time someone says that Government Offices are not cool or clean or painted properly, drag them to Daman.

From there we decided to go to a beach to watch the sunset and to laze out.

We called for another auto and again - "Beach" See, how I am avoiding names here like a pro. Because I have no idea which beach is near or good. Since the people in Daman are good, I had trust them that they will take me to the better one.

Where did the driver take us this time? Jampore Beach. Yes, it was crowdy - Sunday + Long Weekend. But, there were several empty chairs. There are shacks with chairs, all facing the beach. They serve fresh catch like prawns and pomfret also chicken. Not to forget - beer. Most people visit Daman from the dry state (Gujrat) to gulp on as much liquor their body can hold. So, you do not get alcohol in Daman, it flows in Daman. (Same was the case in Veera Da Dhaba).

After sunset, we came back to our hotel. We skipped dinner in Daman and regretted it later.

All in all, it was great fun - food, historic sites, and beach. For a place you can visit on a weekend, you cannot ask for more. The hotels and other services are very basic. Do not expect to find something great there. In case you wish to stay, then you can book your Hotel in Vapi which is where I am now. There are good hotels here also railway station which connects to Surat and Mumbai.

Have you ever been to Daman? I might visit again so, let me know if I have missed anything.

Love,
Shayoni

PS: I just realised that I haven't shared about my Bali trip yet. I was supposed to do it yesterday but...
