Kama Ayurveda KUMKUMADI Miraculous Beauty Fluid // Ayurvedic Night Serum
|Kama Ayurveda KUMKUMADI Miraculous Beauty Fluid // Ayurvedic Night Serum|
This year is the year of facial oils and toners. I am lucky to discover them and loved how effective they are without being loaded with silicones and chemicals.
Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi is no different. In fact, it is 100% natural with no chemicals, unlike the other oils I have tried.
How I got introduced to Kumkumadi? In India, everyone wishes to be fair. Fairness creams are the highest sold goods in a beauty store. Everyone goes to the sales assistant and ask – “Will this make me Fair? If yes, then take my money and give me the product” (obviously not exactly these words, but you get the idea.) Now, I am not belittling anyone in favor of fairness creams because 5-6 years back, I have personally gone to shops asking for the same!
The one fairness cream that I had seen being sold when I was a kid and still survives in the market is Fair and Lovely. They keep on bringing new variations. And I really thank them for that because in 2008 they launched a ‘Kumkumadi’ variation. They said it directly from the Ayurvedic texts and all.
Luckily, I was in Kerela at that time. And Kerela = Ayurveda! I went to a chemist shop to buy Kumkumadi, and the chemist warned me that it is a super costly thing. Being a humble student, I asked him for the cheapest of all. He handed me one priced at Rs 100 for 10ml. When I tried it, I found it was super runny and had a bad smell but worked great on my skin. My skin had a shine. The oil got over, but I could not repurchase as I had left Kerela by then.
How I found Kama Kumkumadi? I was provided as a press sample when Kama Ayurveda Kolkata Store opened.
My Experience –
Packaging - I really admire the packing. The bottle comes seals with a screw cap accompanied by a dropped. You have to break the seal and use the dropper. Once you insert the dropper, you cannot pack it back in the box. I found this extremely hygienic. Plus, the outer carton is also sealed.
The bottle is made of glass so; it is not travel-friendly.
Price - Rs 1350 for 12ml. This is the costliest facial oil. They have hiked their price twice recently.
EDIT - They have hiked it again. This is now priced at Rs 1890 for 12ml.
Ingredients - This is the only oil which is 100% natural - no perfume, no paraben, no silicons. It is free of artificial colorants, fragrance, preservatives and petrochemicals. All natural ingredients.
It has herbal extracts of saffron, sandalwood, vetiver, licorice, Himalayan cherry, lotus, banyan tree, Indian madder and sappan wood in Sesame oil
Texture and Smell - This is the thickest of all the facial oils that I have tried. It does get absorbed as quickly as others. The directions on the leaflet say 4-5 drops, but I use 2-3 drops only. I found that it spreads easily when my skin is moist so, I apply right after cleaning/toning, or spray rose water before application. As the smell is not that good (contains no added perfume!), I also at times like to spray rose water after applying it.
Effects on Skin - It does not irritate skin. Within a week, I could see the difference. My skin was good to start with thanks to The Body Shop Vit E Serum in Oil but, after using it, my skin has a glow of its own. It seems like my skin shines from within.
At first, I thought that my brain was over thinking, but when we were taking the mint saree OOTD pictures, I realized my face was bouncing off light. I had to discard a lot of pictures because even without flash, my skin looked like a tube light has been fitted inside me!
All this sounds too good to be true, right? So, here is one of those light-bouncing pictures. There were clicked without flash, and I am not wearing any foundation, compact, BB cream or for the matter not even sunscreen!!
|Bouncing off light OR did she ate a tube light for lunch? *wink* LOL. |
If you see properly, my skin here is not at all oily but still reflecting light. Who needs highlighter?
- Works how to claims. My skin is having its best days now. The picture said it all!!
- Pure Ayurvedic formula.
- This is the only oil which is 100% natural - no perfume, no paraben, no silicons.
- It is free of artificial colorants, fragrance, preservatives and petrochemicals. No mineral oil.
- Clean sealed and hygienic bottle with separate dropper.
- This is the costliest facial oil in the market! Yes, it is costlier than Kiehl's, Body Shop and Clarins when you check the price per gram.
- Available only in select stores and through their online shop
- Packaging is not travel-friendly.
- Some might not be able to tolerate the smell.
Overall - I adore facial oils and I might have just discovered the champion of all. Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi delivers what it claims.
The price is mind numbing high, but the formula justifies the price with 100% natural ayurvedic formula. The only good part is that one does not need to shell out huge money in one go.
In case you can find Kumkumadi at any local ayurvedic store then do try them as they will be cheaper. They might not be as thick and good as this one. It is because one of the main ingredients is pure saffron which makes the formula very costly.
Another tip - Many people found that facial oils caused pimples. Here is a tip - apply facial oils only when your skin is moist and clean. If needed, after you clean your face with a cleanser/soap, spray some rose water right before application. Dry skin might not be able to absorb the oil properly leading to blocked pores resulting into pimples.
(This turned out to be quite a long post! Thanks for reading)
