The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil Review India

If you are not aware of the new launch of Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil from The Body Shop, then you must be living under a rock. Like seriously, ROCK! This has taken the world by storm. Anyone aware of how awesome facial oils are for skin but afraid of the huge price tag, got some relief from this one. Also, if you are aware of how amazing The Body Shop vitamin E range is then you must have even picked it up from a store.

How I used facial oils?

Before sleeping, right after using La Roche Posay Effaclar Toner Astringent, I allow my skin to dry for few minutes. After that, I take 1-2 drops of oil, warm it on my finger tips and slowly dab it on my skin. If I take more and rub/massage it on my face then I wake up looking like oil tank. (Anyways, I will talk about the other products that I am using in an upcoming post. Frankly speaking, I am using just a handful of miracle products).

Value for money?

A little goes really long. It took me three weeks to finish 2 ml of Keihl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate whereas I could finish just 1 ml of using Clarins Face Treatment Oil after using for about two weeks.

Why facial oils over creams?

If you look carefully at the ingredients list of your moisturizers then you will find that there are one or two main active(s) in the moisturizer which is either some essential oil or some synthetic potent ingredient. These actives are present in low quantity in a cream base of water, dimethicone etc. So, instead of loading you skin with silicone you can directly benefit from the potent actives by applying the oil concentrate. Again, you might have a completely different point here so, read ahead and we will talk about it.

As it is tough to talk about TBS Serum in Oil on its own, let me do a comparative review. (I tried really hard to post the review last week but I was always getting into comparative mode. So, I clicked pictures again this weekend for a comparative post. LOL)

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil vs Clarins Face Treatment Oil (Lotus) vs The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil
Clarins Face Treatment Oil (Lotus)  VS The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil VS Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil

The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil VS Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil VS Clarins Face Treatment Oil (Lotus)

Versions – TBS Vit E OSIO and Keihl’s MRC have just one variant meant for all skin types. But, I found TBS will be good for dry-very dry skin and Kiehl’s MRC can work on normal and combination oily skin.

On the other hand, Clarins have three variants for their facial treatment oil - Santal Face Treatment Oil for dry skin, Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil for normal skin, Lotus Face Treatment Oil for oily skin. I used Lotus.

Oil Texture - TBS Vit E OSIO is extremely hydrating and heavy, compared to Keihl’s MRC and Clarins Face Treatment Lotus Oil. TBS Vit E OSIO is suitable for dry skin. I loathe using it on nights when the temperature is too high as otherwise I wake up with an oily T zone. I never faced such issue with Kiehl’s MRC but with Clarins I faced the issue at times.

Do keep in mind that the place I am residing now has temperatures ranging from 30 - 42 degrees Celsius ( ~ 86 – 108 degrees Fahrenheit) - hot and sticky.

Even though I was using them on my acne prone skin at this high temperature, I never faced any break outs *touch wood*

Skin Improvements – When I used Kiehl’s MRC for the first time, I woke up with a glow on my skin that was there when I was a teen! Not oily but translucent-light-reflecting-dewy skin. Interestingly, that miracle was never repeated with even Kiehl’s MRC the very next day.

But, with all of them my skin has improved a lot. I am far happier and confident with my skin. I skip foundations and powders most of the time. (When I went to Mumbai, I was wearing only a dab of Pond’s BB cream.)

My acne marks have healed faster, acne marks from last year have faded, and my skin feels fuller, smoother and firm.

All of them are good at their jobs but if I still have to compare and rate then I will say Kiehl’s MRC was more effective at removing acne marks but Clarins worked best at giving me a smoother skin and TBS gave the fuller feel. Yes, it is confusing. At times, I felt like mixing them. But, I was refraining from doing so as I wanted to write a proper comparative review. DUH.

Smell – TBS Vit E OSIO has added fragrance and smells like any product from TBS Vitamin E range.

Kiehl’s MRC does not add any fragrance but it does have lavender extracts. My nose took two weeks to get used to the smell of Kiehl’s MRC. Sadly, I do not like it even now. I just try to not-care-about-it.

Clarins has a very soothing smell which I think also helps you sleep better.

The Body Shop VITAMIN E Overnight SERUM IN OIL ingredients

Ingredients

Now, this is something that you have to see. TBS Serum in Oil and Kiehl’s MRC have a very similar set of first ingredients. (In general, the ingredients mentioned first are the ones in highest percentage of the total formula.) I also appreciate that TBS has mentioned the actual role of the ingredient in its formula. Also, I believe, it has almost all the oils which are considered good for skin ranging from wheat germ oil, almond oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, Jojoba seed oil to Soybean oil. TBS seems to have hand-picked ingredients from both the oils.

Ingredients marked in Blue are common between TBS and Keihl's and/or Clarins.

Price in India
  • The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil Rs 1695 for 28ml
  • Kiehl’s MRC Midnight Recovery Concentrate Rs 2990 for 30ml
  • Clarins Face Treatment Oil Rs 2400 for 30ml (Need to confirm)

Overall - You can read and compare the ingredients with the price and make your judgement.

Still, if you ask me, I will say - If you have dry skin then God just heard your prayer. Go ahead and get The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil. Better wait for discounts as TBS keeps on running 20-30% offers.

I wish TBS brings out another Serum in Oil in Tea Tree range for oily acne prone skin.

For oily and acne prone skin, Kiehl's is a good option as it works great on acne and acne marks. (Hail the Turmeric Root Extract in Kiehl's MRC. I used to eat it as a kid and also during my teen years. I think I have already told you that I had superb skin as a teen. LOL)

Clarins is a good option for sensitive skin because there are not many ingredients. Plus, the smell is better. But, smell is something that you have to check personally.

I, for example, am going to reserve the TBS Vit E OSIO for winters and might get the other two and mix them or use them alternatively. Or maybe wait till I finish the samples I have.

So, what caught your fancy here?

Keep Discovering,
Shayoni
